Gaea is divided into editions that target different workflows and budgets.
Gaea licenses are perpetual - no subscriptions or hidden fees. Support, maintenance, and minor updates are all free. Only when upgrading to a major version - e.g. Gaea 2.0 - is it a paid upgrade.
This is the maximum supported resolution for building a single chunk (untiled) terrain.
With Tiled Builds, you can split a terrain into multiple chunks and build large scale worlds at any resolution.
When building a single chunk terrain, the output can be optionally split into tiles for consumption in realtime engines or DCC applications.
Export terrains in 32-bit, 16-bit, and 8-bit formats including OpenEXR, TIFF, RAW, etc.
Read moreExport terrains, masks, or data as an XYZ point cloud, which can be useful for generative guides in other applications such as growing trees, or creating zones in game engines.
Read moreExport terrains as meshes with automatic LODs in OBJ and FBX formats.
When exporting, you can choose the number of LODs to generate alongside the main high resolution mesh.
Control polygon complexity based on terrain shapes.
Split the terrain mesh into tiles.
Gaea's advanced graph based workflow is the key to creating sophisticated terrains. This open-ended workflow gives you the flexibility to create almost any kind of results you want.
Read moreApply frequently used adjustments to a node as a post-process, saving you the need to add and manage additional nodes.
Read moreMove the viewport to a second screen for maximum preview coverage.
Gaea's internal (and fully local) Predictive Service learns your node creation and connection patterns as you work, and modifies the UI to give you faster access to the nodes and portals you prefer.
Read moreThe Chokepoint is a special node whose sole purpose is to help avoid re-connecting several nodes. It does not add any memory overhead.
Read moreThe highly flexible graph interface allows you to reduce the number of clicks and actions required to use nodes.
Read moreEasily interject a node between connections or reroute existing connections with a single click.
Read moreAutomatically layout the graph, or portions thereof, using intelligent layout rules.
Save node settings as presets and easily consume presets made by other users. Save node states temporarily so you can experiment.
Import or export the whole graph, or even parts of it, to share across projects or with fellow artists.
Read moreInstead of dealing with Noise nodes, you can directly use Primitives such as Mountain, Ridge, Dunes, Crater, and more. These nodes provide shapes that can look good without any erosive processing.
Read moreGaea can import 2D data in almost all common heightfield formats ranging from OpenEXR to PNG. Just drag and drop a compatible file on the graph and Gaea will set up the rest.
Read moreDraw guides of any shape from which realistic mountain ranges can be generated on the fly.
Paint masks for terrains using a mouse or stylus.
Read moreAchieve complete, sophisticated environments from simple shapes with these specialized nodes. Each LookDev node targets a specific type of "look", reducing the need for you to custom build a processing network. You can even chain multiple LookDev nodes to create terrains with a precise, art-directed character.
Read moreUse a wide array of helper nodes to modify your shape and make adjustments with very little effort.
Read moreCreate realistic precipitation effects, such as snow with powerful and accurate physics, or physical structures like ice floes.
Create physically accurate water bodies that can be exported as separate elements or as part of your terrain heightfield.
Sculpt erosion by hand in 1:1 resolution using unique tools pioneered by Gaea.
Reconstitute 8-bit or visually damaged data using the Heal node. It can even counter JPEG artifacts.
Read moreGenerate rainfall, water flow, sedimentation, and various other types of data. You can even generate data after-the-fact on existing terrains, including satellite elevation models. Data Maps are a powerful aspect of Gaea. Their primary use is texture generation, but they can just as easily be used to further process the terrain and even drive other nodes in the form of influence masks.
Advanced one-click texture mask generators let you create sophisticated textures in no time. They can be used on their own or combined with Data Maps.
Read moreSatMap color presets built from real world satellite data curated by terrain experts.
Read moreThe Light Node uses Gaea's proprietary heightfield render engine to create crisp shadows and lighting. You can create beautiful, realtime renders in the viewport to showcase your terrain, or bake the lighting into texture maps. Physical components such as AO and Shadows can be extracted from the lighting output, and can be used to drive other aspects of your terrain, such as melting snow in sunlit portions.
Turn any terrain into a topographical map with customizable graphics and color schemes. You can create elaborate maps with the Cartography node.
Gaea does not restrict how many CPU cores you can use.
Baked nodes can display previews at higher resolution than your normal preview, while allowing you to work with the current lower resolution previews for the rest of the graph. Bake resolution is limited to the highest single tile resolution of your edition.
Read moreGaea provides a mutation facility during build to create multiple variations of the same terrain. This gives you a unique terrain in every mutation while still following the core recipe of your graph.
Expose individual node parameters as variables for automation.
Read moreAutomate builds using exposed parameters and other facilities provided by the Build Swarm.
Read moreConnect to other DCC applications and game engines using bridge/link applications.
Read moreCreate a bridge to Gaea from any application.
Read moreUse the terrains you create in commercial projects.
Activate license without an active internet connection.
Use Gaea without an active internet connection.
Use the same license on two computers, such as a work PC and a personal laptop. Usage by anyone except the licensee is prohibited.
Deauthorize and move the license to a new machine without requiring intervention from our support team. There is no cost for reactivating a license once you exhaust your included moves.
