Is Gaea subscription based?
No, Gaea licenses are perpetual – no subscriptions or hidden fees. Support, maintenance, and minor updates are all free. Only when upgrading to a major version – e.g. Gaea 2.0 – is it a paid upgrade. We do plan to introduce new low-cost rental licenses for short-term use in the future.

How do I upgrade my Gaea license from one edition to another?
(Effective 10 August) You can upgrade your Gaea 2 license to a higher edition on our store by simply paying the price difference. There are no penalties.
How can I upgrade my Gaea 1 license to Gaea 2?
You can upgrade here and receive a 30% loyalty discount.
Can I still buy Gaea 1?
No, we are no longer selling Gaea 1. Contact us for more information.
What payment methods are available to buy Gaea?
The payment options currently available are shown on our store. Credit cards are the primary method. Alipay and Klarna are also available. You can now pay with installments using Klarna. PayPal is no longer available.
Do I need to keep my transaction details?
Yes. Please keep your Transaction ID handy. You will need to reference this ID number when contacting Support.
Can I get a refund for my purchase?
All purchases are strictly non-refundable. Please try the free Community Edition before buying to ensure the product meets your needs. If you need more information, contact us.
How can I purchase more than one license?
(Effective 10 August) You can purchase more than one license in a single transaction on our store. Before that date, if you need to buy more than one license, you can either purchase them individually or contact us for a volume transaction.
Do you provide volume discounts?

Do you offer site licenses?
Yes. Site licenses are available. Contact us for more information.
Do you provide educational discounts?
Yes, we offer individual educational licenses to eligible students and teachers. We also offer annual educational site licenses and special volume pricing to academic institutions. Contact us for more details.

Licensing
How do I activate my license?
When you start Gaea 2 for the first time, you will be asked to activate your copy to continue. Enter the serial number you were given when downloading Gaea 2.0. For mass deployment, use command line activation.

How many computers can I install my Gaea license on?
Indie and Professional licenses can be installed on 2 computers (such as a work PC and a personal laptop) as long as only the licensee uses it.
Enterprise licenses can be used on a single machine only.
Are Gaea licenses node-locked?
Yes. Indie and Professional edition licenses are node-locked. However, you can deauthorize and move the license to a new machine without requiring intervention from our Support team.
You can deactivate your license copy from the Help menu, via command line, or using the Gaea Diagnostics Utility.
Enterprise editions are not node-locked and may be moved from machine to machine by deauthorizing an existing installation as frequently as needed.
I lost my license key. How can I recover it?
Contact our Support team with your Transaction ID, date of purchase, and edition.
Can I share or sell the content I create with Gaea?
Yes, you own the content you create. Exceptions:
- Commercial usage is not allowed with educational licenses.
- If the Assets you create are part of an interactive terrain generation or modification tool, you cannot sell these Assets in a retail capacity.
Are floating licenses available for Gaea?
Floating licenses are now available. Contact us for details.
Can I transfer my license to someone else?
We will consider this on a case-by-case basis. Contact Support for details.

What are the requirements for running Gaea?

Do I need an internet connection to use Gaea?
Yes. You need an internet connection to activate the license and must do so at least once every 28 days to keep the license active.
Is Gaea CPU or GPU powered?
Several heavy processes in Gaea are accelerated by GPU processing, with a CPU fallback. We also use cutting-edge CPU technologies to provide dramatic acceleration without even using the GPU.
Can I run Gaea on a Mac or Linux?
Gaea remains a Windows-only application at present.

Is Gaea a standalone or a plugin application?
Gaea is a standalone application. It can optionally plug into Houdini and other applications via a bridge.
